Ronald D. Moore to Showrun ‘God of War’ Game Adaptation at Prime Video

Based on the critically acclaimed PlayStation videogame franchise, the live-action series follows God-in-exile Kratos, who stumbles into an epic adventure as he attempts to spread the ashes of his diseased wife with his estranged son.

Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind, Battlestar Galactica) has been named writer, showrunner, and executive producer on Prime Video's upcoming live-action series adaptation of the video game God of War, according to Variety.

The project, first announced in 2022, has undergone a creative upheaval, with original showrunner Rafe Judkins having recently departed alongside executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The move is reportedly due to a shift in creative direction, with all previous scripts now scrapped.

God of War follows Kratos, the God of War, who returns from exile in the Norse realm of Midgard to spread his deceased wife’s ashes with his estranged son. However, he soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.

The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios in association with PlayStation Productions. Santa Monica Studio’s creative director Cory Barlog will continue to serve as executive producer alongside Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Hermen Hulst, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. Santa Monica Studio’s Jeff Ketcham will serve as a co-executive producer.

God of War will (eventually) stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
