'Slugterra' Expands UK Reach

Nerd Corps partners with Channel 5 to bring the animated series Slugterra to the UK.

New action-comedy animation Slugterra premiered on Channel 5 on Saturday 3rd August 2013. The deal was struck by Channel 5 and producer Nerd Corps.

Slugterra made its UK debut on Disney XD in March 2013 where the action packed toon was an immediate hit with viewers and continues to be aired daily by the channel. Thirty nine 22 minute episodes have been produced to date, with more on the way.

Toy support comes from Jakks Pacific. The programme kicks off with a line of blasters, dart packs and collectible slug figures launched at Smyth’s, Toys”R”Us and The Entertainer, along with additions to the toy line in fall/winter 2013.  Smyth’s are also on-air sponsors for the series on Disney XD.

“We’re excited to be expanding in the UK, which is a key market for us. We’re on two great platforms now with Channel 5 and Disney XD, and Jakks and CPLG are excellent partners,” said Juli Boylan, Head of Global Consumer Products at Nerd Corps. “This is a crucial part of Slugterra’s continued global rollout. With an evergreen brand like Slugterra, which harnesses boys’ natural love of collecting, duelling and exploring, we can look forward to great success in the UK and globally.”

Even more Slugslinging activities are now available on www.Slugterra.com . The site receives approximately 2 million visits per month from fans eager to brush up on their slug battling skills.  Online games, Battle for Slugterra and Slug Run, have received over 16.5 million game plays since September 2012, and a new multi-player puzzle matcher game, Slug It Out!, is now available to download on iOS at the App Store.

Slugterra follows the heroic journey of teen Eli Shane and his best friends, the Shane Gang. Set deep underground, where the ammo’s alive and only the quick survive! In this luminous, high-tech, underground world every cavern holds a new adventure, new battle and weird little slugs to be discovered! Only by collecting, training and dueling with slugs can Eli and his team hope to defeat the forces of evil. Did we mention the part where the slugs transform into powerful magical beasts? That part’s awesome!
