Despite earlier reports that Ryan Gosling was riding around the project, Variety reports that Armie Hammer is now Disney's top choice for the lead in LONE RANGER. He would play the masked gunfighter opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Gore Verbinski is directing, Jerry Bruckheimer producing and Justin Haythe writing. The studio wants to have the film in theater by fall 2012.
