Latest snippet features a small sampling of the film’s large-scale action visual effects; Paramount Pictures’ ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ sequel hits theaters April 8.
With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 set to hit theaters this Friday, April 8, Paramount Pictures has shared a new clip from the SEGA-sanctioned sequel.
In this scene, Tom (James Marsden) disrupts his friend Randall’s (Shemar Moore) wedding ceremony, begging him to hand over his soon-to-be wife Rachel’s (Natasha Rothwell) ring so he can save Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) from imminent danger. After an awkward tug-o-war between Tom and the groom, the ring opens up a giant portal, allowing Sonic and Tails to narrowly escape an avalanche and spin right onto the premises.
A follow-up to 2020’s live-action adaptation of the beloved game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sees the return of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who’s back with a vengeance to obtain the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds. This time, the mustachioed menace is joined by Knuckles (Idris Elba), an “echidna warrior” who also seeks control of the green gems.
Ged Wright serves as production VFX supervisor on the film. DNEG, Marza Animation Planet, and MPC Film handle the visual effects production.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is produced by Paramount Pictures in association with the SEGA Sammy Group, Marza Animation Planet, and Blur Studio. Jed Fowler directs; Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno serve as producers. Haruki Satomi, Yukio Sugino, Shuji Utsumi, Nan Morales, and Tim Miller serve as executive producers.
