Beautifully drawn and masterfully told graphic series marks animation veteran Stephan Franck’s comics debut.
Los Angeles, CA -- Acclaimed animation veteran Stephan Franck (Iron Giant, Despicable Me, creator of the cult TV series Corneil & Bernie and Annie Award-nominated director of The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow) has make his comic debut on the direct market tomorrow with the availability of Volume 1 of the trade paperback Silver in comic book stores nationwide.
Published by Dark Planet Comics, Silver has built an underground success over the last year as Stephan Franck hit the comic convention circuit, selling out almost immediately the series’ first three extended chapters then launching a successful Kickstarter campaign backed up by the fans he had met nationwide to fund the first print run of the paperback, which also immediately sold out. Building on its grassroots success, today Silver is coming to comic book shops everywhere.
Silver has received wide critical acclaim from press and peers alike. Ain’t It Cool writes, “Franck knows his customers, what they want, and he gives it to them in spades.” Tim Sale (Batman: The Long Halloween; Batman Dark Victory) comments, “with Silver, Stephan Franck shows how much excitement can be packed into a fast-moving, thrill-filled story...dynamic, unfussy, black and white art, all in the service of speed and momentum...a really, really fun ride.” Takeshi Miyazawa (Code Monkey Save World) describes Silver as “a beautifully drawn and masterfully told noir/heist story with a teasing side of the supernatural that constantly kept me surprised with its reveals. I was particularly taken aback by the creative camera angles and use of shadows. I was kinda blown away, really.”
Silver’s Franck was nominated this year for a prestigious Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer award which was awarded at the San Diego International Comic-Con.
Silver Volume 1 is a Dark Planet Comics debut release. Based in Los Angeles and Paris, Dark Planet Comics was founded in 2013 by animation director-writer-creator Stephan Franck as a home for his original comic book creations. In 2014, Stephan’s brother Emmanuel Franck joined the company, bringing his experience as a producer and studio executive with some of Europe's largest animation and transmedia companies including Ankama and Millimages.
