Animation and live-action production company Super 78 has hired former Creative Capers art director Robert Rose as CG supervisor. After working as a freelance art director for a number of years, Rose joined Creative Capers Entertainment where he enjoyed a successful six-year tenure as art director/technical director. While at Creative Capers, Rose led the CGI design team and was instrumental in pre-visualization development for Universal Studios SITTING DUCKS, and also worked on the feature films 101 DALMATIANS, MR. MAGOO, THE TIGGER MOVIE and BOUNCE. Rose also has significant credits in the interactive gaming world, having worked on numerous titles for Disney Interactive. At Super 78, Rose has already been involved on a number of projects, including overseeing a two-minute animated film for Cerritos Library and a commercial for a soon-to-be-released gaming title in which 3D models are used to simulate traditional 2D animation. "I am really excited by the diversity of projects being created at Super 78," said Rose. "[Founders] Dina Benadon and Brent Young have a clear vision of how to expand into areas that can benefit from digital production, and have already demonstrated this success in the gaming, commercial and special venue arenas. Its energizing to be a part of such a forward-thinking team." Super 78s most recent animation work includes Namcos PAC-MAN titles, Segas SONIC ADVENTURE 2 and multi-screen shows for such noted clients as LEGO.
Sylvia Edwards talked with Super 78 to give an overview of the gaming production process and where its similarities and differences lie from more traditional animation fields.
