Toei Animation Licenses DVD Rights To One Piece

Toei Animation has awarded Dargaud-Lombard through its subsidiary Kana Home Video with the DVD distribution rights to one of Toei's signature anime series, ONE PIECE.

The announcement was made today by Kanji Kazahaya, Toei's Director of International Department.

According to the agreement, Kana Home Video has acquired DVD distribution rights for the first 143 episodes for the following countries: France, French speaking territories (Luxemburg, Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra, French Dom-Tom and dependences.), Belgium and Netherlands.

Toei Animation is currently revising French dubbing with new voice castings to make this series more faithful to the original Japanese animation.

ONE PIECE (340 x 30): In a time when pirates ruled the seas, several bands of pirates battled over the great hidden treasure called ONE PIECE, which was left by the now-legendary pirate king, Gold Roger.

One day, Monkey D. Luffy -- a young boy who admired pirates -- mistakenly ate Cursed Gum Gum Fruit turning himself into a rubber man.

Ten years later Luffy set out to sea all alone to become King of the Pirates and launch his own quest to discover ONE PIECE.

This TV series adapts Japanese popular comics of the same title by Mr Eiichiro ODA. More than 340 episodes of this series have been aired since 1999 in Japan but still following new episodes continue producing. This series currently airs in more than 13 counties all over the world.
