Tool Signs Acclaimed Interactive Director GMUNK

The acclaimed interactive director GMUNK joins Tool.

GMUNK began his career at the innovative web design outfit Vir2l Studios Europe, however it was through the immersive experiences he built for his personal website that he first began to attract the international cult following he has today.

GMUNK’s portfolio spans feature films, experimental installations, music videos, graphic design, and title sequences – all with a focus on artistry and innovation. He spent the entirety of 2010 directing a team of the world’s top graphic artists to concept and design all of the holographic sequences for director Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: Legacy. GMUNK also partnered with Kosinksi on Oblivion, creating all of the UI interface graphics featured in that film as well. Most recently, GMUNK served as Design Director at San Francisco-based robotics studio Bot & Dolly, where he designed the revolutionary projection mapping performance piece “Box.”

“We are beyond excited to bring GMUNK on board as an interactive director,” says Tool Managing Partner of Digital, Dustin Callif. “We’re always looking to expand and diversify our roster, and I have no doubt that GMUNK will bring a unique perspective to the team. I think I speak for everyone at Tool when I say that we can’t wait to bring GMUNK’s distinct aesthetic into the mix.”

In addition to his wide array of commercial and film design projects, GMUNK has lectured at over 60 top design conferences across the globe. Highlights include headlining OFFF Barcelona, TOCAME in Munich, FITC in Toronto, Tokyo, and Amsterdam, and Semi-Permanent in Sydney and Auckland.
