TORONTO -- Tricon Films & Television has acquired Kavaleer Productions’ new animated preschool ecology adventure series Wildernuts (26x7), produced in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann / Irish Film Board, RTÉ (RTÉ Junior) and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision fund.  This announcement comes as Tricon officially unveils its new Tricon Films & Family division, which will feature both acquired content and new projects in development.

“The launch of Tricon Kids & Family is a natural next step as we expand our children’s content in all genres, both in production and distribution,” said Jon Rutherford, SVP Distribution & Business Development.  “Wildernuts’ charming way of exploring the wonders of the world will engage children everywhere and is a perfect fit for our new division.”

“We are delighted to have Tricon representing Wildernuts. Their enthusiasm for the project was evident from the start and we are confident that the series is in the very best of hands,” said Gary Timpson, Managing Director of Kavaleer Productions. “It’s also a real plus that the unveiling of Wildernuts coincides with the launch of Tricon’s Kids & Family Division and we look forward to working with the Tricon team.”

Wildernuts introduces pre-schoolers to biodiversity and ecology in a thrilling, quest-based forma, tapping into every child’s innate curiosity to enthuse them about nature as something to be embraced, respected and enjoyed. The Wildernuts are on a mission: to learn how to read nature’s clues and then discover her hidden gems. Captain Quilty is the leader of this intrepid crew that also includes Ludo (the cabin boy), Scrunch (the cook), Tuchi (the look-out) and Smidgeen (the mascot). Curiosity is the key for our five adventurers as they travel around their island home in their magical flying ship, the Cloudhopper, exploring different habitats and meeting the strange and funny creatures that live there. And at the end of every adventure, the Wildernuts get a treasure for their trove, to remind them of the fun they’ve had, the creatures they’ve met, and the things they’ve learned.

Also debuting at Mipcom Junior is the previously acquired JiggiJump (25x5’), which gets preschoolers physically active by taking them on imaginative musical adventures!

Tricon has a proven track record producing quality children’s programming with its award winning kids format The Next Star, now in its 6th hit season on YTV.   Also currently in development is the animated 4-7 bridge pre-school series, Go Away Unicorn! with co-producer Mercury Filmworks.
