Universal Pictures has unleashed the first trailer for 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D., courtesy of Machinima.
The new trailer, unveiled earlier this week at Universal’s CinemaCon presentation to exhibitors, delves into the afterlife of Nick Walker, played by Ryan Reynolds. Still disbelieving that he is already dead, Walker soon learns that his life is not completely over as he is recruited to the “Rest in Peace Department.”
Walker is assigned as the new partner of Western-styled sheriff Roy Pulsifer, played by Jeff Bridges. The rookie and the brash veteran are dispatched by the otherworldly R.I.P.D. to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.

Adapted from the Dark Horse comic book “Rest in Peace Department” by Peter M. Lenkov, R.I.P.D. is written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, and also stars Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Mike O'Malley, James Hong, Marisa Miller and Robert Knepper. The Robert Schwentke-directed film is slated to hit U.S. theaters on July 19.
