Watch the Grishaverse Come Alive in ‘Shadow and Bone’ VFX Reel

Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, their hit magical fantasy series based on Leigh Bardugo's worldwide bestselling “Grishaverse” novels, was just renewed for a second eight-episode season. Now streaming, Season 1 finds us in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.

According to Art of VFX, there were a slew of VFX studios on the production, led by production VFX supervisor Ted Rae, including DNEG; El Ranchito; Folks VFX; FuseFX; Ghost VFX; Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies; NetFX; Scanline VFX; SSVFX; Spectral Visual; Static Chair Productions; The Third Floor; and Zen Haven Studios.

From Netflix and 21 Laps Entertainment, the series is executive produced and written by Eric Heisserer, who also serves as showrunner. Bardugo also executive produces along with Lee Toland Krieger, who also directs. Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry executive produce for 21 Laps Entertainment; Pouya Shahbazian executive produces for Loom Studios.
