Leading visual effects studio delivers 163 shots across 4 sequences, including Natasha Romanoff’s car exploding and rolling across a bridge in her fight with Taskmaster, for Marvel Studio’s latest MCU action adventure.
Leading visual effects studio Scanline VFX has just shared with AWN an excellent VFX breakdown reel showcasing their work on Marvel Studios’ latest MCU action adventure, Black Widow.
Black Widow explores the evolution of the eponymous character, also known as Natasha Romanoff. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), Romanoff finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, she must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
Scanline completed 163 shots across 4 sequences for the film, the majority taking place on the bridge, the setting for Romanoff’s fight with Taskmaster. Work on the sequence involved the car exploding and rolling down the bridge, coupled with destruction and FX simulation work for details like shattered glass, fire, sparks, muzzle flashes, dust and debris. Scanline extended the bridge environment in CG, simulating the river underneath and used a digi-double for Black Widow as she jumps off the bridge into the water below.
Smaller sequences included the Budapest car chase which involved CG window reflection replacements, street clean-up/signage replacements and the Sæbø safe house sequence where Scanline extended the trailer environment.
