LOS ANGELES (September 16, 2011) — Waterman Entertainment announced today that the company will bring four new children’s formats to MIPCOM, and one animated format for an older audience. Projects include Young Doctor Dolittle, based on the well-known books by Hugh Lofting; Patches the Pup & Friends, starring live-action puppies; an animated educational special, The Seven Habits of Happy Kids, based on the Sean Covey property; The Babbles, an English language learning program; and Funki Punki: The Dark Side of Cartoons, about five incapable characters who will do anything to become famous cartoon icons. The formats will be available for licensing worldwide.
“Young Doctor Dolittle, Patches the Pup & Friends, The Seven Habits of Happy Kids and The Babbles offer buyers quality children’s formats that have an international appeal. To go to MIPCOM with a contemporary approach to Doctor Dolittle from the story editor of Phineas and Ferb, an innovative language learning show, and projects from Emmy-winning children’s series writer Carter Crocker is very exciting for us,” said Cooper Waterman, VP of Development for Waterman Entertainment.
Young Doctor Dolittle is a new animated series based on the well-known books by Hugh Lofting, providing writer Martin Olson (Phineas and Ferb) with an awesome platform to introduce a new generation to Dolittle. The new characters and series focus on the adventures of 10 year-old Johnny Dolittle, who possesses the gift of speaking to monsters, and his teenage sister Debbie. Young Doctor Dolittle is executive produced by Chris Lofting of the Lofting Estate. Separately, Waterman will also be selling the international DVD distribution rights to The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle, an animated TV special based on the original Dolittle characters, at MIPCOM.
Patches the Pup & Friends is a preschool series that stars Patches, a curious puppy, and his neighborhood pals as they learn and teach children valuable life lessons via narration and music. The series is written by two-time Emmy® Award winner Carter Crocker, who has written children’s series including Barney & Friends, The Jungle Book 2 and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Sean Covey and Stacy Curtis, The Seven Habits of Happy Kids is an animated educational series which teaches children how to take charge of their own lives and to discover that balance is best. Also written by Carter Crocker, the series focuses on five children as they overcome the challenges of growing up.
The Babbles follows five precocious characters who entertain and teach young viewers English words and phrases through their comical adventures in the remarkable world of the imagination.
Funki Punki: The Dark Side of Cartoons is the story of five characters looking to fulfill their dreams of becoming famous cartoon icons. Their attempts lead to hilarious encounters and mishaps – will they ever achieve stardom? Probably not, but they’re going to kill themselves, or each other, trying.
