In 1984, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Animation/Olympic Celebration, some 100 international journalists, scholars, festival directors and animation programmers were asked to list the top animated films of all time (only 35 responded). The top 50 highest scoring films were listed and 32 of them were screened at the festival. In 1994 Jerry Beck came out with his version of the THE 50 GREATEST CARTOONS (as selected by '1000 animation professionals'). Jerry's book was a bit more exclusive (eligible films had to be less than 30 minutes and cel animated). Cartoon Network has also screened its own Greatest Animated Films (that they own the rights to) on a couple of occasions. Leaving the cable network lists out of the mix, between the LA Olympiad and Jerry Beck's compilation, there was an overlap of nine films.
