Dropping by one slot was assassination thriller VANTAGE POINT, (Sony, vfx by CIS) pulling in $13 million for a total gross of $41 M.
Paramount's THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES (vfx by Tippett Studio and ILM) also dropped one spot to third place, making $8.8M.
The children's fantasy flick has made a cumulative $55M.
Debuting at number four was period piece THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL (Sony), raking in $8.3M in its first weekend.
Fox's JUMPER(vfx by Lola Visual Effects) followed in fifth, adding $7.6 million to its total take of $66.8M.
Dance sensation STEP UP 2: THE STREETS (Buena Vista) grabbed up sixth place, made $5.7M for a cume of $48.6M.

Christina Ricci's pig-nosed fairy tale PENELOPE (Summit Ent.) debuted at No. 8 with $4M.
Oscar's Best Picture NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (vfx by Luma) jumped from 12th to ninth place; the Miramax film added $4M for a total of $69.57M.
Rounding out the top 10 was other Oscar fave JUNO (Fox Searchlight), with $3.35M and a cume take of more than $135M.
On the animation front, Universal's VeggieTales movie, THE PIRATES WHO DONâT DO ANYTHING, added $102,000 to run its total to $12.969M, while Sony Pictures Classics' Oscar-nominated PERSEPOLIS added $174,000 and raised its total to $3.799M.
