According to CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński, the new title will shift away from its beloved, yellow-eyed anti-hero and focus on a new character within the world.
For those not completely disappointed in CD Projekt Red after the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle, the Polish gaming studio is turning their sights back to the Witcher franchise. However, the newest game likely won’t even be called The Witcher, according to CEO Adam Kiciński, who told Bankier, “The first three Witchers were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game The Witcher 4.” Instead, the new game will shift away Geralt, and focus on a new hero within the world. Crossing fingers for Ciri.
In March 2020, Kiciński told Eurogamer Poland that the studio already had a "relatively clear concept" for the game, and production would begin as soon as Cyberpunk 2077 dropped. Adding fuel to the excitement fire, CD Projekt Red forum moderator Donata Popławska recently revealed, “as far as the strategy of the CD Projekt Capital Group for 2016-2021 is concerned, its plans to release the second AAA game by 2021 remain unchanged.”
That seems way too close to be Witcher 4, so what else do they have up their sleeves? If they’ve learned anything from Cyberpunk, it’s “don’t rush your releases.”
