The World Animation Celebration 2014 Winners Announced

Festival showcases animated short films from over 40 countries in a variety techniques, including CG, stop motion, 2D digital, experimental and traditional hand-drawn animation.

Winners have been announced for the World Animation Celebration International Short Film Animation Festival. Kicking off this week’s World Animation & VFX Summit, the one-day World Animation Celebration -- presented in conjunction with the Los Angeles Film School and Animation Magazine -- was held on Saturday, November 1st at Animation Liberation Studios in Los Angeles, CA.

The festival showcased animated short films from over 40 countries in a variety techniques, including CG, stop motion, 2D digital, experimental and traditional hand-drawn animation.

Make It Yourself -- Maryam Tabatabaei (Iran)

2D Computer Animation 
Behind My Behind -- David Chai (U.S.)

Two Ghosts -- Amy Lee Ketchum (U.S.)

Experimental Animation
Land -- Masanobu Hiraoka (Japan)

Traditional Animation
Guida -- Rosana Urbes (Brazil)

CG Animation
Juste de L'eau -- Carlos de Carvalho (France)

Films were judged by an expert panel featuring Raul Garcia, Lee Crowe, Robb Denovan, Yvette Kaplan, Pete Michels, Brooke Keesling, Eric Daniels, Stephen Chiodo, Ian Hamilton, Mark Aguilar and four-time Emmy nominee Juli Murphy.

Special guests for the event included Floyd Norman, the long-tenured storyboard artist and lead animator best known for his work on The Flinstones and Scooby Doo. Norman began his career in the 1960s working directly under Walt Disney on many storied films including The Jungle Book.

A panel presentation, “Creating an Independent Animated Short Film,” included veteran Disney animator and creator of Hullabaloo, James Lopez; Pete Michels, Supervising Director on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty; Mark Aguilar, animation director on the popular LaLaloopsy television show; Rob Denovan, Senior Animator on Pixar's upcoming film Inside Out; and Lee Crowe, classic animator and storyboard artist on episodes of Family Guy
