'Ugly' is Comedy Central’s new Funny

Beyond South Park and Dr. Katz, not much has stuck to Comedy Central’s cartoon wall. Drawn Together came close with three seasons. Lil’ Bush vanished with Bush II’s presidency, TV Funhouse came and went awfully fast back in Y2K – and anybody even remember Shorties Watching Shorties or Kid Notorious? Well, next month Comedy Central tries one more time with Ugly Americans, a higher-than high concept show that just might stick around for a bit.

Comedy Central Starts Production on Drawn Together Film

NEW YORK, July 22, 2009 -- From the warped minds of creators, writers and executive producers Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser, comes the most reprehensible and most guilty-pleasure movie of all time: "The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!," it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. Currently in production, the first animated film based on the "Drawn Together" series will be released by COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment in March 2010.

The Boat Rocks Later This Year

Universal had been set to release Richard Curtis' THE BOAT THAT ROCKED at the end of August, but now it has turned distribution over to its indie arm Focus Features, VARIETY reports. The Working Title production will have a timed running time than its European release. Focus plans to put the comedy in theaters in November.

Audiences Say Yes to The Proposal

Romantic comedy THE PROPOSAL (Disney, vfx by Brickyard VFX) beat out all other competition for the heart of the U.S. audience, winning the Father's Day weekend box office (ending June 21) with $33.6M.

Last week's two-time winner, THE HANGOVER, dropped just 18 percent for the number two slot with $26.8M. In three weeks the Vegas comedy has earned $152.8M for Warner Bros.

Coming in third was Disney-Pixar's animated hit UP as it grossed another $23.5M for a four-week total of $226.3M.

MTV Debuts New Animated Comedy this Summer

MTV is bringing unfiltered comedy with a twist all summer long as the network premieres a new daily lineup combining three unique genres like they've never been done before. The weekday comedy block kicked off this pas Monday, inviting fans to sit back, relax and be entertained by some pretty hilarious, balls out comedy. The new block includes the animated strip, DJ & THE FRO, a funny look at questionable couplings in IS SHE REALLY GOING OUT WITH HIM? and not really a game show game show with SILENT LIBRARY.

Ghosts/Aliens Has Its Investigators

Comedy Central has hired Jonathan Sadowski and Keir O'Donnell to star in the pilot for the new live-action comedy GHOSTS/ALIENS, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Based on Trey Hamburger's novel, the story follows two stoners who set out to reveal the truth about supernatural creatures. The book is also being developed as a feature at Paramount Vantage. Cast also includes Rebecca Wisocky as Trey's angry single mom and Kaylee DeFer as a fellow ghost hunter.

Futurama Episodes Ordered by Comedy Central?

COLLIDER reports that Comedy Central has ordered up 13 new episodes of FUTURAMA. Thought still a rumor, reports say the production offices have opened and casting is about to start.

The show aired from 1999 to 2003 on FOX then aired on Adult Swim until 2007. A series of four direct-to-DVD episodes was released between then and earlier this year, and the show runs in repeats on Comedy Central.

Atom TV Returns to Comedy Central on June 15

Family Guy Seeks Top Comedy Emmy Again

VARIETY is reporting that Seth MacFarlane has decided to submit FAMILY GUY in the Emmy's outstanding comedy category for the second time. Unlike the last time when a loophole allowed the STAR WARS special to compete in both comedy and animation categories, this time around FAMILY GUY will have to skip the animation category if it wants to compete again live-action laughers.

CW Adds Vampire Show, CBS Picks up Medium

The CW added VAMPIRE DIARIES book adaptation to their fall schedule, among two other new scripted series, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

VAMPIRE DIARIES, aimed to tap into the TWILIGHT phenomenon, is based on the Alloy Ent. series of young adult books about a girl in a love triangle with two vampire brothers.

CBS also announced their fall schedule on Wednesday, officially picking up NBC's discarded MEDIUM and adding NCIS: LOS ANGELES to their lineup, among others.

BBC Commissions Indie to make Kids Comedy Show

New independent production company, Everything Works, has been commissioned by Anne Gilchrist, Controller of CBBC to produce its first ever show.

Premiering on CBBC and BBC1 on March 30, the comedy show sees crazy animated monsters interacting with the real world in a series of 20 x 2 minute sketches.

STREET MONSTERS is a comedy sketch show with a difference. It stars an outrageous cast of monsters who wreak havoc on live-action streets. It's laugh-out-loud funny, silly, edgy, chaotic and totally and utterly unique.

On the eve of the release of LET ME PUT MY THOUGHTS IN YOU, SF Comedy favorite Dana Gould's newest special and DVD release, the Cartoon Art Museum welcomes Gould for a special presentation on Friday, March 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. Gould is a veteran stand-up comedian and comedy writer, and recently spent seven years as a staff writer on THE SIMPSONS, the longest-running television comedy of all time. Cartoon Art Museum Curator Andrew Farago will conduct an interview with Gould, to be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Comedy Central, Paramount Vantage to Battle Ghosts and/or Aliens

Comedy Central and Paramount Vantage have acquired the rights to the recently-released book, GHOSTS/ALIENS written by Trey Hamburger, for a pilot and feature film script.

Scott Aversano and Carrie Beck of Aversano Films are producing the projects. The pilot script will be written by Phil Johnston.

Majority Rules Comedy Series Starts Production

Recently acquired by global entertainment content producer and distributor Entertainment One (E1), Blueprint Ent. has started production on 26 half-hour episodes of the Teletoon original live-action/animated tween comedy series, MAJORITY RULES (formerly GO GIRL).
