LA ACM SIGGRAPH Presents: “Stereo 3D Essentials: Capture to Conversion” - February 8th

The Los Angeles Professional Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH presents “Stereo 3D Essentials: Capture to Conversion”.   Four key subjects will be covered - stereo capture, stereo editing, stereo compositing, and stereo 3D conversion.  Featured speakers are: James Neihouse, IMAX stereographer and DP; Steve Wright, 20 year VFX veteran and master Nuke trainer; and Jonathan Karafin, Director of Production Operations for Digital Domain’s new stereography department in Florida.

Producers James Young, Ford Oelman and Mark Costa have filed a lawsuit in L.A. against St. Louis-based World Events and Kickstart Prods. alleging that they illegally worked out VOLTRON deals during their exclusive rights window, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Saddam Hussein Trial and Capture Covered in Videogame

Kuma Reality Games, the company that utilizes revolutionary videogame technology to re-create military events, launched a compelling online documentary gaming series on Saddam Hussein. The latest installment takes gamers through the frenzied search through the town of Adwar, and the capture of Hussein by U.S. troops in the infamous "spider hole."

Kuma's previous episode was a recreation of the events that led to Saddam's war crimes trial, now in progress in Iraq. Both episodes are available for free download at KumaWar (www.kumawar.com).

Animated Encounters 2003

British grandmasters of animation Ray Harryhausen, Oliver Postgate and Bob Godfrey are set to share the stage at the fourth annual Animated Encounters at the Watershed Media Center in Bristol, England May 9-10, 2003. Last year more than 5,000 attended the festival offering a mix of international and U.K. premieres, industry seminars and events. The audience will vote for their favorite film that will then become a nominee for the European Cartoon D'Or film award at Annecy. More than 50 films will be screened in addition to all five BAFTA nominees in the short animation category.
