Idiots’ Diary #15: Idiots and Angels Opens in NYC

It's finally arrived – the grand opening of my animated feature, Idiots and Angels, at the IFC Center. I've been working my tail off, doing four interviews a day trying to get the word out.

It's finally arrived – the grand opening of my animated feature, Idiots and Angels, at the IFC Center.  I've been working my tail off, doing four interviews a day trying to get the word out.

I'm very disappointed that we weren't able to get any NYC press, none of the dailies and none of the weeklies. It's a real bummer, because I believe I'm a great story – the only indie filmmaker in New York making successful feature films – what's a better story than that?

In any case, we got a lot of great web interviews and of course Facebook and Twitter press, so I hope that what people say about traditional media losing its power to the internet is true, because I got zero traditional press coverage.

Tomorrow, as I write this diary, all the reviews come out and hopefully they'll be decent. Since I don't have a lot of advertising budget, I need reviews and the internet to drive people to the cinema.

So if there is such a thing as a box office god, I'm on my knees praying my heart out to him or her – But you people, my dear readers, are really my gods. Because you decide whether my film is a hit or a miss. So go ahead, be god and decide my future. I just ask you to be gentle.
