Animator Yulia Ruditskaya has initiated a project to create a collaborative animated film supporting Belorusian protests to be projected on the walls in Minsk and New York City.
I am sure that all of you are aware of the terrible events that are going on in Belarus. Animator Yulia Ruditskaya has initiated a project to create a collaborative animated film to be projected on the walls in Minsk and New York City.
Please read all of the details in her call to all animators below.
We are creating a collaborative animation to support Belarus and Belarusians in these unprecedented times. Thousands are arrested, tortured, and murdered. Belarusians have proven that they are the brave and honorable people that united to stop the genocide and horrific violence committed by the government and police against peaceful protesters in Belarus.
The colors of the protest are white and red. The white-red-white flag is a historical symbol of Belarus and became a symbol of peaceful protest and hope.
The idea is to create a collaborative animated film where every animator/animation director will make a 3-5 second clip - their interpretation of the white-red-white flag. The duration can be up to 10 sec if your idea requires it.
I will collect all the animations and edit them together into one animated collaborative film. Everyone who contributed will be credited.
We will showcase this work as a projection on the walls in Minsk, Belarus, and here in NYC to express international artistic solidarity with Belarusians and attract attention to these horrific and dramatic events.
Please, repost and share among fellow animators!
Please, send the completed animations and any questions you have to yuliaruditskaya@gmail.com
Project details
Dear Animators!

Please, see the technical specs and suggested format below:
1. Please send the completed animation to yuliaruditskaya@gmail.com with the subject:
Animators Support Belarus and your credits/ information you want to include in the final credits.
2. As a suggested grid: Use white and red (various shades of red are welcome) and the basic compositional grid of white-red-white as a base to ensure continuity of the overall animation.
IMPORTANT: the flag grid is just for the compositional reference, it doesn’t need to transform to the exact image of the flag example from the layout at the beginning and the end. Just keep the composition close to the flag to ensure continuity. See an example of an image with the flag layout below - with interpretation.
3. The creative interpretation of the colors and stripes is entirely up to you: it can be abstract or concrete, it can be serious, dramatic, romantic, humorous, talk about love, peace and torture.
This is a universal historical symbol of Belarus so be respectful. At the same time, we want freedom of expression and interpretation.
4. There could be transformations and compositional change within the clip but keep the beginning and end layout close to the suggested grid to ensure continuity.
5. Keep it short, around 5 seconds duration, but if you need an extra second or two - please feel free to add, overall try to keep it under 10 sec.
6. Technical specs: see the grid for reference below.
7. 1920x1080 24 fps no sound ProRes422 mov ( or uncompressed lossless video .mov to ensure maximum quality). Duration: approx. 3-5 sec If you need to, it can be up to 10-sec max.
8. If you make it a loop, that would be great too. It will help us with editing, but this is not necessary, only if it fits your idea.
9. See my interpretation as an example. Please, feel free to express yourself as an artist.
10. Please if you want to participate let me know ASAP and also send your animations asap so we could assemble the collective animation in a timely manner. Ideally, please send the animation by the end of the week August 30, 2020 . If you need an extra day or two for finalizing, give me heads up so we could plan accordingly.
11. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
12. No sound or music, it will be added separately. We’re working with the musicians on that.
Thank you for your support and collaboration!
