Providence/Boston VFX Group

I recently moved to New England from LA where I worked in the VFX industry. Actually I started in NYC and only spent about ten years in CA, working mostly for Disney. I have been an EFX lover my whole life and love everything from the hanging mineatures of the 1920s to digital wonders of today. My favorite is matte painting, especially the work of Albert Whitlock, but I like everything.

I am posting this notice to see if anyone in New England would like to join me in forming a group of effects, animation and cgi people who want to get together to share this interest and form a kind of comunity. I would like to get professionals, students, film historians and just EFX lovers to join. What we do when we get together needs to be decided, but I hope we could view and discuss major achievements of the past and present. For professionals I think it would be a good way to meet and cross pollenate, and for students, a good way to get started.

If a large enough group can be formed, maybe we can get guest speakers from the industry.

RE: Boston/Providence animators/motion designers

Hey - just saw your post. I live in Boston and just came to this forum to make the exact same post. I'm also looking for people in the biz to get together with, do some cool work with, etc.

I'm a graphic designer/motion designer/animator; my background is in design, but I had gotten a little bored with it and wanted something more dynamic. I've been animating for a few years now, gradually getting more work and am currently finishing up a short for festival submissions. I'd definitely like to chat and am, obviously, very interested in getting some people together.
