The international festival dedicated to stop-motion animation takes place in Maribor, Slovenia September 25 – 29 and Łódź, Poland December 5 – 8.
StopTrik International Film Festival is an international celebration of worldwide stop-motion animation and takes place in two European cities, Maribor (Slovenia) and Łódź (Poland).
The festival tears down the “red carpet” barriers – the audiences, guest filmmakers, and the organizers spend time together watching films, discussing traditions, and current trends in animation, creating new works, and partying at the end of the day. At StopTrik a new relationship emerges between audiences and artists with viewers positioned in the role of the jurors selecting the winners of the festival's main prizes.
Each year the event facilitates exploration of subjects related to problems of culture, society, and politics through special thematic retrospectives. Past editions posed questions about animated cinemas from Latin American countries, feminism and animation, rebellious animation, propaganda film, and mythological storytelling. This year, the festival’s central theme is transhumanism, a multidisciplinary approach that explores the possibilities of enhancing the human condition through the application and development of technology.
The international dimension of the festival becomes clear through both the artistic program as well as the creative cooperation with festival co-organizers in Poland.
Since 2012, complimentary festival editions take place in various locations in Poland (formerly Niepołomice and Bielsko-Biala); currently StopTrik is in Łódź and Maribor.
StopTrik celebrates stop-motion animation across five days, filled with a series of dynamic and the showcasing of 130 animated films. The 14th edition of StopTrik takes place September 25 – 29 in Maribor, Slovenia, and December 5 – 8 in Łódź, Poland.
