Chiavari Animation Festival

Chiavari on the Italian Riviera will be conducting a new animation festival in 2004. In this first edition the Chiavari festival will gather "the best" of the animation output of the years 2000-2004. The event committee will be selecting the films, bringing together the best work from the past four years. An international jury will award the Millennium Prize along with more prizes. The event is being organized by famed animation historian Giannalberto Bendazzi. The program will include a wide-ranging historical retrospective of the silhouette films, accompanied with a book on the subject (in English, French and Italian) by historian Pierre Jouvenceau; a survey on animation in the Mediterranean area, hinged this year on Greece; an homage to filmmaker Emanuele Luzzati; and an homage to filmmaker Isao Takahata.
