Brian LeMay Animation:Basic Principles...any good?

Is anyone familiar with Brian LeMay's book "Animation:The Basic Principles"? I believe it comes with a CD of animation exercises. I can't find it on amazon, but it's available from a few animation supplies dealers.

Does anyone have any experience of the book? Good or bad?

Thanks

Eva

If you check out his website he previews the book pretty well via some blurbs and animated illustrations. Run a Google search for it. Using that as an indicator I'd say the info's good if you're JUST starting out, but he doesn't really put it into any useful context, relying more on textbook definition.

I own that book and it's been a good reference on a few occassions. I strongly suspect that if I had done the exercises in the book, it would have been more helpful and I'd be a little better off.

You can order the book from Lightfoot Ltd, Cartoon Supplies, or straight from Lemay's website.

Thanks for the link RC.

Probably a good point about just starting out... I fit that shoe.

Yes, that shoe fits me too! In the end, I decided to order "Timing For Animation" instead of the LeMay book. I have two old Preston Blair books and the "Animator's Survival Kit" at the moment...and they are my only guides.

Once I get something interesting done, I'll post it for you guys to have a look at.

Thanks for your help.

Timing for Animation rocks. It's not something specifically covered in a lot of education resources, and I got the e-book online for five bucks vs 25 which really increases the value. I partially share your demographic so I'll second that motion to anyone reading these posts that it should at least be perused if not purchased if you're still building your skills.
