All-Star Cast Eyed for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’

Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth are in early talks to appear in the Oscar-winning ‘Pinocchio’ filmmaker’s upcoming classic monster flick remake for Netflix.

The remakes keep rolling in! Fresh off his multiple Academy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe (plus many more!) Award wins for his stop-motion masterpiece Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Guillermo del Toro is set to craft his own take on the classic monster flick Frankenstein.

The live-action project has been in development for several years, and will follow the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, though it’s unknown how faithful the adaptation will be.

Sources close to Variety whisper that Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spiderman, Tick,Tick…Boom!), Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight, Dune), and Mia Goth (X Trilogy) are in the running to star, but all potential talks are still in early stages.

Del Toro will pen and direct the upcoming film, just one of many in development as part of his multi-year overall deal with Netflix. Also in development from the dark filmmaker, although not currently with Netflix, is a stop-motion animated feature adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro's novel The Buried Giant.

“The Buried Giant” novel follows elderly British couple Axl and Beatrice in a fictional post-Arthurian England, where people can only maintain short term memories. The couple are one day able to vaguely remember having a son and embark on a journey to a nearby village to find him.  “With the help of a brash yet determined knight and a mysterious young boy, [Beatrice and Axl] travel across lands familiar and strange, ever closer to learning their son’s fate,” a description from the publisher reads.

Netflix has yet to comment on the Frankenstein casting news.
