The first feature produced by Paris-based TeamTO, ‘Yellowbird’ is directed by Christian De Vita and designed by art director Benjamin Renner.
Following a brief theatrical run, the CG-animated feature Yellowbird, the first feature produced by Paris-based TeamTO, is now available on DVD.
Yellowbird is directed by Christian De Vita, who previously helmed the animated short from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, and also served as storyboard lead on Fantastic Mr. Fox and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie. Designed by art director Benjamin Renner (director of 2013’s Ernest & Celestine), Yellowbird has a voice cast that includes Seth Green, Christine Baranski, Dakota Fanning, Danny Glover and Elliot Gould.
Written by Antoine Barraud and Guilhem Lesaffre with Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked), Yellowbird is “the epic story of a young teenage bird so scared to venture out into the world that he nearly misses the fun of discovering who he really is.” A teeny, tiny orphaned bird that has never left the nest, Yellowbird has no family, yet desperately wants one -- until he finds himself leading an entire flock on its migration to Africa.
Los Angeles-based Wrekin Hill Entertainment acquired North American rights to the film from French distributor Haut & Court. Yellowbird saw a limited theatrical release in December, followed by today’s VOD and DVD release from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
DVD extras include the “Inside the Studio: Recording the Voices for Yellowbird” and “How to Make an Animated Film with Director Christian De Vita” featurettes.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Yellowbird (Seth Green) is a timid bird who falls from his nest and loses his family. He befriends Ladybug who encourages him to break free and see the world. On his first venture out into the world, he meets Darius (Danny Glover), a patriarch of a migratory bird family that is about to leave for winter migration to Africa. Darius dies, and it's Yellowbird's destiny to lead the flock to Africa for the winter. With the help of Darius's charming daughter, Delf (Dakota Fanning), the group has an exciting adventure that sends them to Paris, Holland, and over the vast Ocean.
