Michelle Rodriguez (RESIDENT EVIL), Taryn Manning (8 MILE), Oliver Hudson (TVs THE MOUNTAIN), Hill Harper (THE SKULLS) and Eric Lively (TVs THE L WORD) have signed on to star in Wes Craven-exec produced horror film THE BREED, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. First Look Media and DEJ Prods. are handling worldwide rights. Cravens longtime collaborator Nick Mastandrea will make his directorial debut on the film, which starts filming next week.
Inspired by CUJO and THE BIRDS, the story follows five young friends who while on vacation on a deserted island discover genetically altered and highly intelligent hungry canines that only seem friendly.
Exec producing with Craven will be Hal Sadoff with David Lancaster and Marianne Maddalena producing in conjunction with Apollo Media and the IDC in South Africa.
First Look Intl will start its licensing push at this year's Cannes. The film should be in U.S. theaters by the fourth quarter.
Mastandrea is a longtime member of Craven's production team, having served as first A.D. on the SCREAM series as well as films like IDENTITY and BLOW.
