Mike Flanagan is penning the script while the hunt for a director is underway; plot details have not been revealed for the film which features the shapeshifting Batman villain last seen in Max’s animated ‘Harley Quinn’ series.
DC Studios has greenlit a Clayface feature, with a script by Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep) already attached, according to Variety. Plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that Clayface is a shapeshifting Batman villain, first introduced in 1940 and most recently voiced by Alan Tudyk in Max’s Harley Quinn.
Flanagan first teased the project in 2021 when he tweeted he was, “really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy.” However, the filmmaker is not on board to direct as he is already committed to The Exorcist for Universal and a series adaptation of Carrie for Amazon MGM Studios.
Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris produce under their 6th & Idaho Productions umbrella.
Clayface is set for a September 11, 2026 release.
