Internationally renowned filmmaker Andreas Hykade is named Director of the Institute of Animation at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Andreas Hykade studied at the Academy of Arts in Stuttgart from 1989 to 1990 and subsequently at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg from 1992 to 1995, as one of the Filmakademie's first graduates in Animation/Digital Art Work. Hykade has been working as a freelance director of animated films since 1992, realizing projects for children as well as adults. His work includes award-winning short films such as We lived in Grass (1995), Ring of Fire (2000), Love & Theft (2010) and, most recently, Nuggets (2015). Hykade has also produced several popular German TV productions, including Tom and the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam & Honey (2004-2012), as well as various interactive projects. His artistic output has been honored with numerous retrospectives, including a show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 2007.
Since 2002, Professor Andreas Hykade has been teaching at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. Furthermore, he has worked as a lecturer at the renowned Art University Kassel (2005-2010) and as a visiting professor at a number of international schools, among them Harvard University (2008), Shenkar College Tell Aviv (2010) and Royal College of Arts London (2001/02). In 2011, Hykade became Senior Lecturer for Animated Film at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Head of the subject area Animation at the Institute of Animation. The 46-year-old succeeds Professor Thomas Haegele as Institute Director, who led the Institute of Animation since its foundation in 2002 and retired in December 2014.
