Finalists Announced for Inaugural Collision Awards

Finalists for excellence in animation and motion design include ‘Elemental,’ ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ ‘Nimona,’ ‘Suzume,’ and more.

The Collision Awards — honoring excellence in animation and motion design across all its forms — has announced its inaugural finalists, including the American Museum of Natural History, the American Red Cross, Bank of America, Bloomberg Media, BOL Production House, Cirque du Soleil, Magnopus, Moonraker VFX, MTV Entertainment Studios, Nathan Love, Odd Fellows, Ordinary Folk, Passion Pictures, Scholar and Studio AKA.

Reflecting the tremendous growth and importance of animation in today’s media world, industry leaders joined forces with the organizers of The Telly Awards to launch the Collision Awards at the start of the year — the first global and holistic platform solely dedicated to honoring excellence in animation and motion design in all its forms.

Launched in partnership with key industry leaders and partners including Animation Magazine, Stash, WeTransfer, VIEW Conference and Unreal Engine, among others, the mission is to celebrate the unique and incomparable creativity and technical talent in animation and motion design across marketing & communications, commercials, television, film, experiential, games, and XR. The festival is billed as “the first time ever that animation across all disciplines will be honored by one set of awards.”

All finalists are eligible to win a Collision Award, selected by the Collision Award Jury, and the Collision Audience Choice Award, voted on by the community around the world. Voting for the Audience Choice award is now open through July 11th 2024 at vote.collisionawards.com

“In launching the Collision Awards, we set out to honor animation and motion design as a medium, globally, irrespective of genre or category. The breadth of work received, and now selected as finalists, truly spans the gamut of what’s creatively possible across film, commercials, games and beyond,” Collision Awards general manager Randeep Katari said in a statement. “Seeing the diversity of work from over 30 countries, you can truly see the importance of honoring animation across all forms, and how some of the most exciting, creative, and stylistic work is being done through animation.”

Collision Award finalists were selected by the Collision Awards founding jury, which includes Kev Cheah (Partner, Brunswick), Sarah Cox (Executive Creative Director/Aardman), Marge Dean (Head of Skybound Animation Studio and President/Women in Animation), Ronnie del Carmen (Co-director & writer of Pixar’s Inside Out), Maureen Fan (Chief Executive Officer/Baobab Studios), Jinko Gotoh (Producer Finding Nemo), Jay Grandin (Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director/Giant Ant), Julie Lockhart (Co-Founder and President of Production/Locksmith Animation), Andrew Millstein (Co-Head/Annapurna Animation), Mike Moloney (Founder and Executive Creative Director/Art&Graft), Gilles Monteil (Animation Expert/Ubisoft), Ramsey Naito (President/Paramount Animation and President/Nickelodeon Animation), Claire Renton (Animation Director/Ludo Studio), Phil Rynda (Director of Original Animation, The Pokemon Company International) and Fred Volhuer (Co-Founder/Atlas V Group).

The inaugural Collision Awards finalists underscore some key themes and insights across the industry; from the versatility of this medium with work ranging from feature film stand outs including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem to work for and from brands including Headspace’s The Mindful Adventures of Unicorn Island to Passion Picture’s work for Apple, “Fuzzy Feelings.”

Finalists also exemplify the quality of work from emerging talent at leading institutions including Savannah College of Art and Design, Ringling College of Art and Design and School of Visual Arts. Lastly, with finalists representing over 30 countries including North America, Australia, Italy, India, Japan and Singapore, the inaugural class exemplify and celebrate the global art form that transcends culture and audiences.

Collision Audience Choice Award voting ends July 11th, 11:59 PST and all winners will be announced on July 16th, 2024.
