Gareth Edwards in Talks to Direct New ‘Jurassic World’ Movie

The ‘Rogue One’ and ‘The Creator’ helmer may pick up the mantle after negotiations fell through last week with original choice David Leitch; the next franchise installment, touted as the ‘new Jurassic era,’ is slated to release July 2, 2025.

Gareth Edwards (The Creator, Rogue One, Godzilla) is in talks to direct the upcoming Jurassic World film, which lost original director David Leitch (Bullet Train, Fall Guy) last week after negotiations fell through, according to THR.

David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost World), will pen the film, which is already deep in development. The upcoming film marks the end of the established 3-decade long storyline, and has been described as a “new Jurassic era.” This could potentially mean no more Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, or franchise vets Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley return to the franchise as producers, with Steven Spielberg executive producing for Amblin Entertainment. Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North.  Executive VP of production development Sara Scott and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell oversee the project for Universal.

Though untitled, the project will reportedly be released on July 2, 2025.

In the meantime, fans of the franchise can check out the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory later this year, while Texas natives can experience ‘Jurassic World: The Exhibition’ opening March 8.
