‘Ghost Cat Anzu’ Headed to Blu-ray, Major Digital Platforms

Available on Blu-ray starting March 4, the animated film that follows a teen girl and a cat that accidentally make a deal with the devil will also stream on major digital platforms starting January 28.

The anime feature Ghost Cat Anzu will be available on Blu-ray starting March 4.  From GKIDS, with distribution by Shout! Studios, the offering includes bonus features such as teasers and trailers. The film will also be available on digital platforms, including Amazon, Apple, Google, Fandango, Microsoft, and iNDEMAND, on January 28.

In the film, precocious tween Karin finds herself abandoned by her father in rural Japan. Living in a temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a giant “ghost cat” and notorious layabout tasked with looking after her. Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townsfolk and befriends the eccentric local forest spirits. In an effort to win Karin over, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil, and all Hell breaks loose.

Ghost Cat Anzu was first filmed in live-action, with the animation rotoscoped based on the footage. The film is co-directed by artist Yôko Kuno in her feature directorial debut, and Nobuhiro Yamashita (Linda Linda Linda). Shin-Ei Animation and Miyu Productions co-produce. Music is by Keiichi Suzuki (EarthBound).

Ghost Cat Anzu wrapped its U.S. theatrical run late last year, and was one of 10 animated projects from Miyu shown at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
