Korean Researchers Anticipate New 3D Technology Boost

A group of Korean researchers from a local university have developed a new kind of high-quality MoCap technology that is so simple to use that they believe this will allow Koreans to compete internationally in vfx, reported THE CHOSUN ILBO.

Without the kind of expensive tools that Weta used to create Gollum, the researchers suggest that their breakthrough technology would allow filmmakers to capture 3D motions with just one camera, and the movements of virtual characters can be divided into 3,000 frames per second, providing a high-quality image of natural movement in realtime.

Crowd scenes can also be easily created with the new technology at a fraction of present costs, and if this technique is applied to film and animation productions, MoCap effects could be produced at the same standards of movies made in developed countries.
