NBC has ordered up thirteen episodes of horror anthology series FEAR ITSELF, to air this summer, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER reports.
The Lionsgate-produced series will be directed by the likes of John Landis (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON"), Ronny Yu (FREDDY VS. JASON) and Darren Bousman (the SAW series).
Brandon Routh, Elisabeth Moss, Shiri Appleby and Eric Roberts are among the actors signed on to the project.
Lionsgate, a key producer in the horror genre, is joined by Industry Entertainment, the producer behind Showtime's MASTERS OF HORROR and ABC anthology series MASTERS OF SCIENCE FICTION, which ran briefly last summer.
Like MASTERS, Emmy-winners Keith Addis and Andrew Deane will executive produce.
"This is a world Lionsgate knows a lot about," Addis told THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. "They have a proven track record in this genre and understand the marketing of it. NBC saw this as a great opportunity to bring a genre to commercial television that nobody else is doing ... (this time) the partners have a very different level of enthusiasm."
SCIENCE FICTION was dumped in the Saturday at 10 p.m. timeslot last summer despite good reviews, but NBC hopes to break the broadcast TV anthology series curse with FEAR.
