Netflix Developing ‘Minecraft’ Animated Series

The streamer teams with Mojang Studios on a new show based on one of the most significant and popular video games of all time.

Netflix and Mojang Studios have teamed to develop and produce an animated series based on one of the most significant and popular games of all time, Minecraft. The series will debut exclusively on Netflix and will feature an original story with new characters.

The exciting news was announced as a part of the Minecraft 15-year anniversary celebration, where fans of the game and their unforgettable adventures were honored. With over 300 million copies sold, Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time, and its audience continues to expand beyond gaming. The multi-generational brand brings people together from around the world through different experiences, from live events and entertaining gameplay to consumer products and captivating visual media storytelling.

The new CG-animated Minecraft series is in development with WildBrain, the studio behind such popular animated Netflix shows as Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carmen Sandiego.

A Minecraft live-action feature is also in development from Warner Bros., Vertigo, and Legendary, and is set to hit theaters April 4, 2025.
