Going green got a new meaning as the slime level reached new highs at the 20th Annual Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards held Saturday night at UCLA. To the glee of the teen and tween crowd in house and at home, an impressive array of big and small screen stars were served up for sliming during the two-hour televised show. Among those targeted by the green, sticky liquid during the star-studded event were host Justin Timberlake, Vince Vaughn, Mandy Moore, Jackie Chan, Tobey Macguire, Chris Tucker and Steve Carell.
A world record was set with a never-before-attempted slimy feat in which daredevil stuntman Ron Jones bungee jumped from a height of 225 feet and plunged into a five-foot deep bucket of Nickelodeon's signature green slime. Ryan Seacrest provided colorful commentary for this sixth World Record Slime Stunt.
Throughout it all, stars were honored with the coveted orange blimp award. Nick viewers determine winners and this year more than 40 million kids cast votes in 16 categories to honor their favorites. In animated related honors, top animated feature went to HAPPY FEET and in accepting the award, actress Nicole Kidman announced that the blimp would sit next to director George Miller's prestigious Oscar statue. SPONGEBOB SQUARE PANTS took Best Cartoon for the fifth straight year while CREATURE FROM THE KRUSTY KRAB nabbed favorite videogame. Queen Latifah was singled out for her voice work in ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN.
Big screen winners included THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST for Favorite Movie. Dakota Fannning was named Favorite Female Movie Star and Adam Sandler for Favorite Male Movie Star.
In music, the Black Eyed Peas won Favorite Music Group and Beyoncé was singled out as Favorite Female Singer while her song "Irreplaceable" won Favorite Song. Host Justin Timberlake took the blimp for Favorite Male Singer.
For television honors, AMERICAN IDOL was named Favorite TV Show. Miley Cyrus won Favorite Television Actress for her title role in HANNAH MONTANA while Favorite Television Actor went to Drake Bell for DRAKE & JOSH.
Other awards went to Shaquille O'Neal for Favorite Athlete and Favorite Book once again was awarded to the HARRY POTTER series.
The Wannabe Award, an annual honor bestowed on a celebrity role model whom kids most "want to be," went to Ben Stiller and was presented by last year's Kids' Choice Awards host, Jack Black.
The sixth annual burp contest resounded with a new twist, as two-time Burp Award winner Timberlake was challenged by an unusual opponent: all the kids in the audience. Not surprisingly, the kids handily outnumbered and outburped Timberlake, stripping him of his title.
Live performances included Grammy Award-winning superstar Gwen Stefani singing the title song from her new album, THE SWEET ESCAPE. Grammy Award-winning Maroon 5 presented brand-new single MAKES ME WONDER, performing it for the first time on live TV.
KIDS CHOICE AWARDS: BEST OF THE MESS, a 30-minute program of highlights, will air Tuesday, April 3 at 5 p.m.; Thursday, April 5 at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. and Sunday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. (all times are ET/PT).
