Plympton’s ‘Cheatin’ Available on Blu-ray

Plympton recently contributed to the new compilation animated feature, ‘Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet,’ based on the world-famous book by the Lebanese poet; his latest short, ‘The Loneliest Stoplight,’ is also now in theaters.

Indie animation king Bill Plympton’s award-winning hand-drawn feature Cheatin’ is now available on Blu-ray!

First announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, this marks the first time Plympton has released his work on Blu-ray.

Cheatin’ is an award-winning, surreal animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge, and murder. Inspired by the work of James M. Cain (Double Indemnity, The Postman Always Rings Twice), Cheatin’ marks Academy Award-nominated Bill Plympton’s seventh animated feature film.

In 2014, Cheatin’ received the Prix du Jury award at Annecy, the Audience Award for Best Animated Feature at Fantasia Festival, and was named Best Animated Feature at the Gijon International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for Nominated for Best Animated Feature, Best Director, and Best Music at the 2015 Annie Awards.

Cheatin’ follows Jake and Ella, who meet in a fateful bumper car collision, and become the most loving couple in the long history of Romance. But when a scheming “other” woman drives a wedge of jealousy into their perfect courtship, insecurity spells out an untimely fate. With only the help of a disgraced magician and his forbidden “soul machine,” Ella takes the form of Jake's numerous lovers, desperately fighting through malfunction and deceit as they try to reclaim their destiny.

Head over to the Plymptoonstore for details on how to order. It’s a limited edition, so grab one while supplies last. You can also see the film by ordering it for rental or purchase from Vimeo or iTunes.

Plympton’s work can also be seen in the new compilation animated feature, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, based on the world-famous book by the Lebanese poet. Plympton animated a segment titled “On Eating and Drinking,” alongside several other notable animators who contributed to the film, including Tomm Moore (The Secret of the Kells), Nina Paley (Sita Sings the Blues) and Joan Gratz (Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase).

Produced by Salma Hayek and directed by Roger Allers (The Lion King), with the voices of Liam Neeson, Alfred Molina, Frank Langella, John Krasinski and Hayek herself, the film just opened in limited release in Los Angeles and New York, with more cities to be added during August.

Finally, Plympton’s latest short, The Loneliest Stoplight, featuring the voice talents of Patton Oswalt and first unveiled at Comic-Con, is now being screened at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles, August 13-22. The animated short will also be screened at the NuArt Theater in Los Angeles, August 21-27, in front of the documentary feature Station to Station.
