Ahead of next week’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive look at animator Bill Plympton’s newest feature, Cheatin’.
Billed as an animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge and murder, Cheatin’ is full of nudity, violence, and Plympton’s surreal sense of humor:
In a fateful bumper car collision, Jake and Ella meet and become the most loving couple in the long history of Romance. But when a scheming “other” woman drives a wedge of jealousy into their perfect courtship, insecurity and hatred spell out an untimely fate. With only the help of a disgraced magician and his forbidden “soul machine,” Ella takes the form of Jake's numerous lovers, desperately fighting through malfunction and deceit as they try to reclaim their destiny.
The two-minute video shows the frighteningly muscular Jake arming up with enough outlandish weapons to cover his massive physique. Watch it, below: Head over to THR to watch the video.
Plympton raised $100,000 for the project on Kickstarter and hand-made each of the 40,000 illustrations that compose the film. During his noon panel on Thursday in Comic-Con's Room 23ABC, Plympton will announce official release details for Cheatin', slated for sometime next month, in addition to sharing clips from the upcoming film and his other recent work. The following day Comic-Con will also stream Plympton's short film Drunker Than a Skunk 2 in Hall 2 of the Marriott Marquis and Arena.
