HBO Renews ‘House of The Dragon’ for Season 3

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series, based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood,’ gets a third season pickup, announced ahead of last Sunday's Season 2 premier; watch on HBO and Max.

Made ahead of Sunday night’s (June 16) fanfare and excitement surrounding the long-awaited House of The Dragon Season 2 premiere on HBO and MAX, a third season renewal announcement assured fans that the story of “Fire & Blood” will continue. Based on George R.R. Martin’s book, the series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. 

The Season 2 cast stars Matt Smith; Emma D’Arcy; Olivia Cooke; Rhys Ifans; Steve Toussaint; Eve Best; Fabien Frankel; Matthew Needham; Sonoya Mizuno; Tom Glynn-Carney; Ewan Mitchell; Harry Collett; Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban and Jefferson Hall. Additional season two cast members include Abubakar Salim; Gayle Rankin; Freddie Fox; Simon Russell Beale; Clinton Liberty; Jamie Kenna; Kieran Bew; Tom Bennett; Tom Taylor; and Vincent Regan.

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of The Dragon,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president, HBO Programming, head of HBO Drama Series and Films. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. Season 2 credits include co-creator/executive producer, George R.R. Martin; co-creator/showrunner/executive producer, Ryan Condal; executive producers Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.

VFX houses contributing to Season 2 include BUF, Frame by Frame, FutureWorks Media, Incessant Rain Studios, Lux Machina Consulting, Midas VFX, MPC, MR. X, NVIZ, Outpost VFX, Pixomondo, The Third Floor, Weta FX, and Vast.
