The leading visualization studio’s work involved animating and editing a number of sequences, including a boat crash and shark chase, for the StudioCanal film about a group of friends who meet up for a wedding in the Caribbean and become stranded at sea after their boat sinks.
Proof Inc. has shared with AWN and VFXWorld a previs reel and images highlighting its work visualizing key scenes for the StudioCanal film Something in the Water. Proof’s Previs Supervisor, Martin Bell, managed the animation and editing of various sequences, including the boat crash and shark chase. Using assets from Proof’s library, Bell adapted existing models to meet the film's needs, creatively working around any budgetary limitations. The speedboat and shark scenes were particularly challenging due to the dynamic nature of the shots, requiring inventive approaches to storytelling and animation.
Bell, who collaborated directly with the director, Hayley Easton Street and VFX supervisor, Steve Street, enjoyed a highly collaborative and creative environment. This hands-on dynamic allowed him to contribute meaningfully to the film's narrative vision. Storytelling was emphasized over technical perfection, delivering sequences aligned with the film’s vision. Proof's work demonstrated adaptability and ability to balance creative and technical demands in a more indie filmmaking context.
