Revenant Announces ‘The Pony Express’ CG Animated Feature

The highly stylized sci-fi project focuses on a remote planet on the brink of collapse, where most of its inhabitants are ensnared by a powerful addiction.

Glasgow-based animation and VFX studio Revenant has revealed that the CG animated sci-fi feature The Pony Express is in development. The project is highly stylized with dark and gritty themes. Kev McCrae (Iron Sail, Future Genesis) acts as creative director.

The film is set on a remote planet on the brink of collapse, where most of its inhabitants are ensnared by a powerful addiction. The Iridescence, known as “Iri,” are small, insect-like creatures with a mysterious dual nature between the addictive substance their bodies produce, and the ancient historical data they harbor. Ventura is a resilient survivor with fragmented memories of her past, whose instincts drive her to uncover the Iri’s secrets, setting her on a path of peril.

“Animation gives us the freedom to tell stories that push limits,” said McCrae. “With this feature, we’re asking questions about humanity, technology, and the soul - what makes us human in a way that’s exciting, raw, and maybe a little unexpected.”
