Based on the children’s novel by Adam Gidwitz, the live-action film to be directed by Henry Selick, A Tale Dark & Grimm, follows two children who escape their own dark story only to stumble into eight other twisted tales.
Coraline director Henry Selick has signed on to direct A Tale Dark & Grimm, a live-action film based on Adam Gidwitz's children's novel, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
Inspired by the Grimm fairy tales, the story follows two children who run away from their own dark fairy tale in hopes of finding a happier life, but they end up landing in eight other terrible tales.
John W. Mann and Jon Gunn (B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations) adapted the screenplay with Selick to contribute to the script. Selick has also directed A Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
Marissa McMahon of Kamala Films will finance the development and produce along with FilmNationEntertainment’s Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder.
