The studio shared a few stills, a behind-the-scenes vignette, and action-packed trailer for its treasure hunting adventure adaptation of the hit Naughty Dog video game, coming to theaters February 18, 2022.
We’ve got great Uncharted news to share! Sony has dropped some exciting new visuals showcasing the highly anticipated adventure movie based on Naughty Dog’s popular video game franchise. These includes a BTS vignette hosted by the movie’s stars, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, a new action-packed trailer, and some cool movie stills.
Making the film has been… well… much like a cursed treasure hunt as the studio has struggled to find the perfect stars and filmmaking team. Wahlberg was originally cast as the street-smart Nathan Drake back in 2010, but following the 10-year production delay, was recast as his grizzled wisecracking partner, Victor Sullivan, with Holland taking on the dashing role of the younger Drake. After suffering numerous setbacks, and plowing through at least six directors, the film finally landed on the Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer. The “curse” surrounding the film’s seemingly endless production may finally be broken, as the new February 18, 2022 release date looks solid.
Watch the new trailer as Holland and Wahlberg show off their witty banter, crazy stunts, and Spider-Man jumps from free-falling cargo dropped from the back of an airplane.
Watch the vignette here as Wahlberg and Holland riff off each other as they explore some of the film’s crazier stunts.
The film is based on one of the most critically acclaimed video game franchises of all time, and though such adaptations rarely do well, Uncharted may break that curse too, pairing Holland and his Spider-Man appeal with ever popular Wahlberg. They’ll star together onscreen for the first time in an epic, globe-trotting action-adventure as they pursue “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.
Alongside Holland and Wahlberg, the cast includes Sophia Ali as Chloe Frasier; Tati Gabrielle as Braddock; and Antonio Banderas as the film’s villain. The film is not yet rated but with Wahlberg in the mix and the video game it’s based on rated M, it’s likely targeted to mature audiences.
The film’s production VFX supervisor is Edwin Rivera; DNEG and Soho VFX are handled the visual effects production.
The film is directed by Fleischer with a screenplay by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The screen story is written by Judkins based on the PlayStation video game by Naughty Dog. The film is produced by Charles Roven; Avi Arad; and Alex Gartner. Serving as executive producers are Fleischer; Holland; Holloway; Robert J. Dohrmann; David Bernad; Asad Qizilbash; Carter Swan; Neil Druckmann; Evan Wells; and Art Marcum.
