‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Thunders to $121 Million Domestic Bow

Third film starring the thunder god has the series’ best opening, while ‘Coco’ continues to sell tickets in Mexico.

Marvel Studios’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ stormed to a 21 million domestic bow at the box office.

Marvel’s god of thunder proved mighty indeed this weekend at the box office, with Thor: Ragnarok posting a $121 million domestic bow.

That makes Ragnarok far and away the best-opening Thor film to date, easily besting the $85 million mark set by 2013’s Thor: The Dark World and the $65 million opening of 2011’s Thor. The overseas gross to date on Thor: Ragnarok totals #308 million, giving the Marvel Studios release a $431 million worldwide total.

Meanwhile, Blade Runner 2049 slipped to seventh place at the domestic box office with a $2.3 million gross in its fifth weekend in release. That brings the movie’s total to $85.6 million domestic and $155 million foreign for a $241 million worldwide tally.

And in Mexico, Pixar’s Coco continued to sell lots of tickets ahead of its Nov. 22 release in the United States. The animated feature added $10.4 million to its total, which now stands at $27.6 million in Mexico alone.
