Santa Monica, CA-based creative studio Timber won the award for best visual effects at last night’s MTV VMAs for their contributions to the music video for Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.” This was the studio’s first VMA win.

“Humble” racked up a whopping seven nominations at this year’s VMAs, taking home six awards for Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects.

Other nominees in the visual effects category were “Dis Generation” from A Tribe Called Quest, “iSpy” by KYLE ft. Lil Yachty, “Chained To The Rhythm” by Katy Perry featuring Skip Marley, and “Sign Of The Times” by Harry Styles.

Timber’s VFX contributions to “Humble” elevated the surrealistic nature of the music video, holding a powerful artistic presence throughout. Directed by Dave Meyers, the video was produced by Freenjoy with VFX and post provided by Timber. Company 3 colorist Jamie O’Bradovich handled the color grade.
