Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is the latest stop-motion animated feature from the multi Academy and BAFTA award-winning Aardman (Creature Comforts, Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep), and Academy Award and BAFTA-nominated director Fell (ParaNorman, Flushed Away, respectively). A highly anticipated sequel to Chicken Run, the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time, the film catches up with chicken freedom fighters Ginger and Rocky as they raise their daughter Molly (Bella Ramsey) on their peaceful island sanctuary. However, back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. This time, Ginger and her team putting their hard-won freedom at risk not by breaking out - but by breaking in. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget premieres on Netflix this December 15.
Fell’s career as a writer/director started with the short film The Big Cheese for 3 Peach Animation/Channel 4. He then joined Aardman as a director and animator on commercials and short projects like Pop, Chump, Peter Lord's' Oscar-nominated short film Wat's Pig, and the BBC series Rex the Runt. He developed the children's TV series Rabbits! and feature animation projects, including Flushed Away, which he directed - it was Aardman’s third and final animated feature produced with DreamWorks and the studio’s first entirely CG project. Fell went on to direct The Tale of Despereaux for Universal in London with Framestore before directing LAIKA's second feature film, ParaNorman (with writer/director Chris Butler), released in August 2012 and nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA in 2013.
“For many years, Aardman has shared its unique vision of the world through the wonderful medium of stop-motion animation,” says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “It is a privilege to welcome Sam Fell, director of Aardman’s latest movie Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, to speak in person at VIEW Conference 2023. I know his unique blend of wit and wisdom will inspire our international audience, as he recounts the story of the making of this new animated spectacle.”
