The 35th Moscow International Film Festival announces the first ten films in competition and that Marc Forster’s "World War Z" will open the festival.
Cannes, France -- Leonid Vereshchagin, Producer General of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival (20-29 June) announced at the Russian Film Pavilion, the first 10 films in competition at the 35th Moscow International Film Festival and the opening gala premiere on 20 June of Marc Forster’s World War Z starring Brad Pitt.
Vereshchagin outlined the programme for the festival to the press and industry accompanied by Kirill Razlogov (Programme Director ), Andrey Plakhov (Chief Selector) and Petr Shepotinnik (Public Relations Director), introduced by Catherine Mtsitouridze of ROSKINO.
“We are delighted to be opening the 35th Moscow International Film Festival with Marc Forster’s World War Z and to be welcoming Brad Pitt to the festival. In addition, we have now selected 10 of our Competition films and will announce the rest of the Competition programme at the end of this month.
“Our selection committee has had a tremendous job this year as we received more than 1,500 entries but I feel we have created a programme that reflects the core principles of the festival. We are including a new retrospective strand for documentaries, the theme of which will be the Olympic Games, special retrospectives of films by Bernardo Bertolucci and Costa Gavras, as well as a programme devoted to Dutch cinema under the banner of The Year of Holland.
“In its fifth year our Moscow Business Square will be welcoming 20 projects from Russian and international producers seeking to make co-productions and our Generation Campus will be running a programme that offers young filmmakers training in different aspects of filmmaking from scriptwriting to direction, cinematography and editing.”
The MIFF Media Forum, a parallel programme to the festival, will show work by contemporary Russian and international artists working with video, media art, documentary and still images, under the banner of Expanded Cinema IV: Reality is not Enough.
The first members of the jury to be announced are writer and director Mohsen Makhmalbaf (Kandahar) and Ursula Meier (L’enfant d’en haut).

- Sayonara Keikoku (The Ravine Of Goodbye), dir. Tatsushi Ômori, Japan
- Los Chicos Del Puerto, dir. Alberto Morais, Spain
- Rosie, dir. Marsel Gisler, Switzerland
- Zerre (Particle), dir., Erdem Tepegöz , Turkey
- Disorder, dir.Archil Kavtaradze, Georgia
- Skolzheniye (Slide), dir. Anton Rozenberg, Russia
The 35th Moscow International Film Festival announced its programme in the Russian Film Pavilion which is supported by the Russian Federations‘ Ministry of Culture and ROSKINO with the participation of the communication group Planeta Inform.
