The VFX supervisor on Greta Gerwig’s hit film sheds light on the various ways the famed Mattel doll and her world came to life across 1,300 shots involving various digital filmmaking tools, including virtual production, previs, postvis, CG set augmentation, and more than 20 fully CG shots, produced by Framestore, Chicken Bone FX, FuseFX, UPP, and Lola VFX.
Led by VFX supervisor James HattSmith, the studio delivers 360 shots filled with a wide range of expansive visuals on the Netflix dark fantasy that follows the journey of Morpheus, the King of Dreams, captured and held prisoner for over a century, who struggles to fix the chaos his absence has caused.
Streamer releases 2-part episode this morning that includes animated segment, ‘A Dream of a Thousand Cats,’ directed by ‘Undone’s Hisko Hulsing and featuring the voice talent of David Tennant, James McAvoy, Sandra Oh, and Michael Sheen.
A team of visual effects houses, led by DNEG, created 4,000 shots, complete with new worlds, the mysterious Vault artifact, and the enormous Invictus ship, in David Goyer’s expansive and enthralling new series, based on the famed author’s seminal sci-fi book series, now streaming.
Overall VFX supervisor John Mangia and VFX producer Arissa Blasingame’s team delivered over 750 shots, including the haunting chess piece visions, CG vehicles, set extensions and recreations of exotic Mexico, Moscow and Las Vegas locales for Netflix’s hit limited series.
