The Incredibles Up For Production Design Honor
In an unusual move, The Art Directors Guild (ADG) included THE INCREDIBLES in its nominees for Excellence In Production Design for a Period or Fantasy Film, making it one of the few animated films to ever be considered against live-action films in the history of the awards.
INCREDIBLES production designer Lou Romano is competing for the honor against fellow production designers Dante Ferretti for THE AVIATOR, Gemma Jackson for FINDING NEVERLAND, Rick Heinrichs for LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS and Anthony Pratt for THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
12th annual AutoWeek Design Forum

Intergraph Shipping SmartPlant 3D 5.0
Intergraph Corp. has shipped SmartPlant 3D 5.0. The new version delivers many enhancements for structural modeling and design, 3D model exportation, global worksharing and system support. Intergraph's current customers, including some of the world's largest owner/operators and engineering companies, drove the development of SmartPlant 3D 5.0. The software provides the capabilities needed to design and maintain process, power and marine facilities and keep them "as-built" throughout the life cycle.
Takuo Miyagishima to Receive First Oscar in 2005
Design engineer Takuo Miyagishima, has been voted the Gordon E. Sawyer Award by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He will be presented with the first Oscar statuette of 2005 at the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner on February 12 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Established in 1981, the Sawyer Award is "presented to an individual in the motion picture industry whose technological contributions have brought credit to the industry."
Tronic Studio in First Museum Show
The Knoxville Museum of Art will present Design Lab: Tronic Studio, featuring the New York City multimedia design firm Tronic Studio whose clients have included MTV, Nike, Wired, Fuse Network, Fine Living and Diesel Denim to name a few. Tronic Studio blends architecture with art, video production and interface design. The exhibition, on display at the Knoxville Museum of Art Jan. 14 to March 27, 2005, is the firm's first solo museum exhibition.
AI - San Fran Launches New Curriculum for Interactive Media Design
The Art Institute of California - San Francisco announced it has remodeled its curriculum for interactive design in response to technology advancements and changing opportunities in the multimedia field. The school is now enrolling for its upcoming classes in the program starting January 10, 2005.
The new curriculum in "Interactive Media Design" will arm students with skills needed to enter the interactive graphics, digital marketing and Web development industries. The program is offered at both the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science levels.
Former ESC Ent. Staffers Form Evil Eye Pictures
In the wake of ESC Ent.s shutdown, former senior staffers Dan Rosen, Matt McDonald and John Jack have launched Evil Eye Pictures in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Discreet has launched Discreet Design Academy (DDA), a secondary school program designed by educators and Discreet to bring new visual communications-based learning experiences and skills into the classroom.
SCAD Announces New Faculty
The Savannah College of Art and Design revealed the addition of eight new faculty members, including a new chair of the visual effects department, to the School of Film and Digital Media.
* Shawn Bulloch joins the School of Film and Digital Media as a part-time professor of film and television. Bulloch received a master of fine arts degree in film and television from SCAD and a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Savannah State University.

Art Institute of Vancouver and California - San Fran Team Up
The Art Institute of Vancouver and The Art Institute of California - San Francisco have formed an international partnership and articulation agreement allowing students to complete certificate or diploma programs in Vancouver and continue their studies by earning Bachelor of Science degrees in San Francisco.
Flying Machine & PURE to Launch SKY Cinema Classics
New York-based visual communications and effects studio PURE and design studio Flying Machine joined forces to launch a new 24-hour channel for European satellite broadcaster SKY Italia, SKY Cinema Classics. The focus will be on Italian and American classic films from the 30s through the 80s. SKY Cinema Classics launched on Sept. 3.

Art Institute of Portland Offers Visual & Game Programming Degree
The Art Institute of Portland is offering a new Bachelor of Science degree program in Visual & Game Programming to help give students the skills they need to stand out in these growing fields.
Scheduled to launch on Oct. 7, 2004, at the start of fall quarter, the Visual & Game Programming curriculum begins with courses in foundation art and general studies, building in a strong foundation in mathematics and science as well as design courses. After a few quarters, students may focus on one of two tracks: technical directing or toward programming.
A52 Earns Emmy for Carnivàle Main Titles
Los Angeles visual effects and design company A52 earned an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design on HBO's CARNIVÀLE series. The award was presented during the 2003-2004 Creative Arts Primetime Emmys segment of the 56th Annual Emmy Awards presentation at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sept. 12.
A52s work on this project also earned the PROMAX Gold Award in the category of Non-Promotional Animation earlier this year.

Tim Dingersen, a designer, compositor and animator with experience in commercial and broadcast graphics, has joined Click 3x. Formerly of Curious Pictures, Dingersen has already completed his first assignment for Click 3x, a promotional campaign for Nickelodeon and is currently designing graphics for a long-form project for McDonald's (in conjunction with KanDoKid Films and director Jeff Kennedy).
